Getting the word out

Well the site has been up and running for a week or so and honestly not much time has gone into it since it went live. Facebook views and usage seems to have dropped down a little bit, assuming its because of the great weather we have been having...peeps are not sitting at their computer nearly as much.

Getting some sort of a mobile site or application would be ideal at this point since people are addicted to their phones and Apps are becoming the new fad thing. Some ideas are being tossed around on how to make this work but getting the word out seems to be the problem at this point. Its looking like some foot work might be needed.

More make local habit stickers need to be available at more locations and this should make the make local habit "movement" move a little faster. 5000 friends on facebook and a little over 500 fans don't seem to be doing it...comments and suggestions welcome.

Well happy humpday, summer in Bend has finally arrived and make local habit is starting to grow faster than ever thanks to all of you out their supporting us.

Even though www.makelocalhabit.com is still going though its construction phase some local business logos have been added along with hyperlinks to their websites. Well tonight at 9pm PST www.makelocalhabit.com went live. Pretty exciting stuff and apparently it was some problem on Godaddy's end. Either way its great to see the site live.

Over the next few weeks the site will evolve into a place where local businesses can have some free online advertising, eventually it will become a feature rich but easy to use site that will direct traffic to local businesses in person and on the web.

Still no live www.makelocalhabit.com website and its now starting to look like a propagation problem with godaddy.com.

On a positive note the past week in Bend was amazing. Summer has finally shown up...oh wait maybe not, The Bite of Bend downtown was a big hit, Cycling nationals were awesome, farmers market in NW Crossing had a great turnout and of course the river was starting to see some locals getting in and floating down. Lets hope we have a nice hot and safe 4th of July weekend!

Hopefully we'll see some progress on the website here this next week.

Well it seems that there is either a patience problem or a knowledge problem...lets assume its a knowledge one. Its becoming rather frustrating trying to upload the new website to the web.

Anytime the ftp address is put into the address bar it comes back that:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

One the internet works just fine so check that one off the list.
Two the website is not even active since it can't be uploaded...so that does not seem to be the problem.
Three the address is without a doubt correct. So thats not the problem.

Lets chalk it up to it still being within the 24-48 hours that was indicated by GoDaddy to get the site active. Tomorrow if its still not accepting the page outside assistance will be called in.

Well apparently the hosting will take 24-48 hours to go active. So in the mean time we were tinkering with the make local habit site and made a feeble attempt at putting a landing page together until the full site becomes active. We'll see how it turns out here as soon as the site uploads.

If anyone has any tips...lets hear them.

We'll we just received the files for the old make local habit website and we will be uploading them to our own hosting today. Its a learning process for sure but its exciting none the less.

Over the next 90 days or so we are hoping to have a fully functioning website for free Central Oregon advertising, a much better looking blog than this and some other really cool things in the works to help make local habit take advantage of the power of mobile computing and advertising.

Well we finally secured the www.makelocalhabit.com domain name and just purchased hosting for the website so hopefully over the next few weeks we'll have a solid make local habit website up and running. Here's to keeping it local.
